Wk 7: We were graced with the presence of Stephen Stockwell this week while he decided to combine the most interesting thing - the Internet - with the most boring thing - politics - into one dully-exciting lecture.
Perhaps I should go over his main points so that I can return to them in the future...
Cyber-politics: are - yep, you guessed it - the politics that exist on the internet. This pretty much includes everything, whether it is a discussion on the internet about politics, or political blogs, or any political 'activity'.
E-Democracy: No, it's not Democracy on E. It's the intervention and contribution of the internet on "real world" politics that exist off the internet. Political campaigning, for example, through the use of twitter and youtube all fall under the definition of 'E-Democracy'
Wk 10: I thoroughly enjoyed this week's lecture on gaming. Why? Because I'm a closet gamer. But shhhh, no one knows I'm uncool yet. And I'd like to keep it that way... So, I pretended I didn't care for what Josh was talking about when really I was hanging onto every word. And this is what he had to say about gaming...
Unlike other mediums of entertainment, gaming is the only medium which can appear in different forms (known as genres). There's first-person-shooter (for serial killers in the making), PC games (for forty-year-old virgins), and console games, which have less of a social stigma attached to them.
Josh also explained that a surprising amount of females actually enjoy gaming. Whaaaa? Girls? And games? Who'd a thought?? (cough cough)
Anyway, the gaming world is being constantly upgraded. So no matter what Josh tells us in the lecture, you'll only have to give it a couple of minutes before what we just learnt is actually outdated information that is a little behind... by about a couple of minutes. Anyhow, that's enough noting of the lectures. I've got to finish another level on my James Bond xbox game :)
